Establishment
of Kurose Suisan Co., Ltd. and Commencement of Product Sales
Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (Naoya Kakizoe, President & CEO) will establish
a fully-owned subsidiary called Kurose Suisan Co., Ltd. in Kushima City,
Miyazaki Prefecture, as part of its efforts in its aquaculture business.
The new company will take over the operations of Takamaru Co., Ltd., which
had been subject to court-mandated rehabilitation proceedings since August
2003, launch operations in April with the cooperation of the local fishermen’s
unions*1, and start selling its products in May.
Kurose Suisan will serve as the domestic production base for Nissui
Group’s “integrated aquaculture business”, equivalent
to Salmones Antartica S.A., which is Nissui’s overseas production
base in Chile engaged in salmon aquaculture and processing. It will mark
the first step in Nissui’s domestic integrated aquaculture business,
in collaboration with Imari Fish Feed & Oil Plant (feed production
plant) completed in January 2004, and the research and development functions
of the Oita Marine Biological Technology Center (an R&D institute
specializing in breeding, fish diseases and feed).
Nissui will promote the integrated aquaculture business pursuant to
its management policy to “create new value that will be appreciated
by customers through its wealth of knowledge and technology accumulated
over the years based on marine resources”, under its medium-term
plan for fiscal 2001 through fiscal 2005, dubbed the Toward Global Links
(TGL) plan.
Kurose Suisan will primarily be involved in the farming of yellowtail
snapper and the processing of products such as fillets of yellowtail snapper
and amberjack. Its products will be sold to customers nationwide through
branches of Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd., and will be produced at an HACCP-certified
processing plant. The company will offer safety-conscious products based
on Nissui’s quality control standards spanning from feeds to final
products. Kurose Suisan’s sales target for the first year is about
3.5 billion yen (approx. 1 million fish).
