Opening Ceremony for the New Shandong Sanfod Group Plant

Today, representatives from Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. ("Nissui") including President & CEO Naoya Kakizoe attended the opening ceremony of a new plant completed in October 2005 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China by joint venture company Shandong Sanfod Nissui., Ltd. for the purpose of promoting greater efficiency and enhancement of the group's production function.

This new plant will begin full-scale operation in November 2005 as the group's largest food processing base, primarily producing processed seafood for the world market.

The main products to be produced at the plant are processed seafood such as white fish fillets at plant one, fried seafood at plant two, prepared frozen food at plant three, bread crumbs at plant four and prepared frozen food at plant five.

Under its medium-term management plan "Toward Global Links" (TGL Plan), Nissui aims to utilize its accumulated knowledge and technology to create new value for customers from marine resources, to strengthen its function as a producer in this field, and to grow alongside domestic and global customers as a company which has the ability to demonstrate leadership.

As a major production base handling both seafood and other food in line with this aim, the new plant will play a significant role in the global supply chain, forging greater links between group companies.

Profile of the Joint Venture Company
• Established: June 16, 2004
• Company Name: Shandong Sanfod Nissui., Ltd.
• Capital: 70 million yuan = 918 million yen
• Shareholders: Nippon Suisan - 40% (28 million yuan = 367 million yen); Shandong Sanfod Group - 60%
• Location: Qingdao Economic and Technology Development Zone, Qingdao City, Shangdong Province, People's Republic of China
• Main Business: Food processing, Exporting and importing
• Representative: Teng Haibo
• Commencement of Product Sale:
Scheduled for November, 2005
• Sales Plan: Approx. 8.5 billion yen in fiscal 2006 and 11 billion yen in fiscal 2007
For the time being, the company will primarily process seafood bound for Japan. In addition to Japan, it will also export to Europe and the United States.
In the future, plans are to extend sales to the domestic Chinese market.

Outline of the New Plant (Stage 1)
• Capital Investment: Approx. 2.8 billion yen
• Location: Qingdao Economic and Technology Development Zone, Qingdao City, Shangdong Province, People's Republic of China
• Scale: Site Area - Approx. 72,000m2
Equipment - UF membrane filtration system, Expandable fully automatic cooling system, etc.
Production capacity - Approx. 20,000 tons/year, eventually increasing to 40,000 tons/year following completion of Stage 2 construction
• Main products: Processed seafood, frozen food, etc.
• Plant employees: Approx. 900
•  Expatriates from Nissui are posted as the Deputy General Accountant of the Production Division and Deputy General Accountant of the Administration Division.
The China Quality Management Center of the Production Promotion Office has also been shifted to the plant.
