Since the 2000s, Nissui has been building a global supply chain for seafood and has established its "Global Links" framework with overseas group companies and partner companies that share the same vision. Gorton's joined this framework in 2001 and has since expanded its business in North America, focusing on white fish products made primarily from Alaska pollock.
In its long-term vision "Good Foods 2030," the Nissui Group identifies accelerating global expansion as a key challenge. In the overseas food business, the Group aims to become the overwhelming global No. 1 in seafood-based fried products using white fish and shrimp. Gorton's holds the leading market share in the U.S. household prepared frozen seafood category, with its core lineup of fried Alaska pollock products, while also working to expand shrimp-based products. To achieve this goal, the company required additional production capacity, and therefore decided to establish a new plant, breaking ground in February 2024.
Gorton's existing flagship plant in Gloucester, Massachusetts, will continue to serve as the primary production facility, and with the addition of the Lebanon plant, the company's overall production capacity will increase, allowing Gorton's to continue to capitalize on growing consumer demand. The new facility will focus on producing value-added products, optimizing product lines, and will enable further supply chain flexibility for superior customer service. The plant was constructed in collaboration with Gorton's distribution partner, United States Cold Storage, Inc. (Headquartered in Camden, New Jersey), which provided support in facilities such as refrigerated warehouses and in logistics.
Through this expansion of production capacity in North America, the Nissui Group will further grow its overseas food business and continue delivering innovative food solutions to people around the world.
